Overview

A rewarding opportunity to work in a clinical outpatient, lifestyle medicine program – focused on cardiac and chronic disease treatment. Work closely together with a passionate multidisciplinary team to facilitate lifestyle changes. A team consisting of Registered Dietitians, Registered Nurses, Physicians, Exercise Physiologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, and Certified Yoga Instructors.

Address the root causes of disease, using a patient-centered, evidenced-based approach. 

 

What is ‘Ekahi Ornish Lifestyle Medicine Program?  People with or at risk for chronic diseases can enroll in a 9-week lifestyle program that focuses on 4 elements of nutrition, exercise, group support, and stress management. Groups of up to 15 people meet twice a week for four hours to create a lifestyle change that has shown to promote weight loss, improve lab values, reduce the needs of medication, and improve overall well-being. Multiple groups operating at various times of the day and week. 

The Registered Dietitian (RD) is responsible for implementing the Nutrition element of the Program intervention. Monitors the nutritional adequacy of each participant and communicates clinical issues to the Nurse Case Manager and Medical Director. Oversees foodservice. Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan to ensure the quality and clinical effectiveness of the Program, and the safety of each participant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Nutrition and Dietetics required, Masters preferred.
  • Registered Dietitian with CDR accreditation.
  • License, as needed, per state requirement.
  • Current certification in BLS or CPR.
  • Experience in counseling and coaching individuals in making lifestyle changes supportive of comprehensive dietary changes.
  • Experience in meal planning, preparation, cooking and shopping prescribed by low fat vegetarian nutrition guidelines.
  • Knowledgeable about research and the role of dietary factors in heart disease, and exhibits an ability to explain these concepts clearly to participants.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Excellent leadership and adult education skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Research experience preferred.
  • Health coaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with sensitivity to participant needs.
  • Desire and willingness to collaborate as a member of a high-functioning transdisciplinary team that supports personal transformation.
  • Willing to work some nights and Saturday mornings.
  • A passion for health and wellness
  • Currently eating plant-based, and has personal experience with plant-based nutrition and lifestyle

Responsibilities

  • Provides nutrition education, counseling, and coaching to participants about the implementation of the Program’s nutrition guidelines.
  • Delivers nutrition lectures/sessions and cooking demos/classes according to Program guidelines.
  • Conducts a nutritional assessment for nutritional adequacy on each participant.
  • Collaboratively sets goals with participants in order to achieve adherence to Program guidelines.
  • Assesses, reports and charts participant adherence to nutrition guidelines.
  • Identifies and counsels participants who may need therapeutic adjustments to the eating plan.
  • Participates in the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan for each participant.
  • Participates in the monitoring, documentation, and communication of the participant’s response to the interdisciplinary treatment plan throughout the Program intervention.
  • Serves as the nutrition expert in educating the chef/food service staff.
  • Supervises and collaborates with the chef/food service staff (or outside vendor) to provide the Ornish menu cycle and ensures it meets the Ornish standards for presentation, palatability, and nutritional adequacy (including regular meal sessions, potlucks, cooking classes, and cooking demonstrations).
  • Personally models the Program by embodying its principles, philosophy and practices.
